If you don't mind going back and have the platforms to play them on, you really should just play SH1 and SH2. Those are the masterpieces of horror/melancholic/deep storytelling.
Those metallic soldiers at the end remind me of the ones in MGS4

It's not all that free considering this version is coming out at 60 bucks. The 360 version can be found under 20 and DLC adds up to less than 60.
